Seasonal Start up - How To
It is very common to have mechanical problems on the first launch of the year. Here are some easy procedures to avoid problems.
1. Before you head for the boat launch, install the drain plug (some boats have more than one), and make sure the batteries are charged.
2. Once in the water, start the boat but STAY ON THE TRAILER. Let the engine run for a couple of minutes while observing the engine and bilge area. Look for water leaks in the engine. During the winterizing process, engine hoses and plugs can be accidentally left off. Usually it is a simple process to reattach and stop the water leak.
3. Go for a drive and watch the engine temperature gauge constantly. Engine temperature should climb to about 160F then stay there. Stay close to home until you see the temperature stabilize. Raw water impellers are prone to failure on the first drive of the year.

Environmental group Wildsight issued a press release about boating on Lake Windermere (click the button below for the two page article). It is an aggressive anti-boating opinion piece that was widely circulated. Wildsight and Lake Windermere Ambassadors are the leading organizations in the local anti-boating movement. The press release contains many false statements and follows the usual strategy of instilling fear about "potential impacts". CVBA was formed in part to tell the other side of the story and ensure that decisions about the lake are based on fact. The best thing you can do to counteract the anti-boating movement is to join CVBA. Send this newsletter to your friends who care about the lake.

Boaters Responsibility Code
CVBA developed these ten best practices for boating on the lake. If all boaters follow these guidelines, the lake will be more enjoyable for all users. Better boating behaviour will also help quiet the anti-boating movement and lead to improved riding conditions on the lake. Signs have been installed at many of the high volume access points around the lake. Please encourage everyone who drives your boat to adopt these practices.
We are looking for expert help.
CVBA would like to complete an Economic Impact Analysis on recreational boating on the local economy. We would also like to analyze Lake Windermere water quality data to see if or how the quality of the water has changed in the past 15 years. Do you have experience with economic studies, or water science? Please contact us. We have funds available but need guidance on where to start and who to hire for these projects.
